Once again many thanks are due to the Landowners where this bird was present.

This Shrike was always on the look out and usually to be found on top of a bush at the highest point to give it maximum view of its surroundings.

Well a happy New Year to everyone and what a great start it has been.

The Christmas period wasn't to bad either and even though it has been relatively mild it stilll brought me some Short-eared Owls to my local patch. Normally I might expect to find these birds in some what colder conditions in this area and thinking back it must be at least fifteen years since I have seen one of these birds in the village where I live. A little luck was involved in locating the present bird as it was seen to get up from a nearby field and fly in a direction I knew held suitable habitat for this bird to hunt. Half an hour later and it was re-located. Short-eared Owls have meant some travelling distant over the past few years but what a joy to have one locally, and an even greater joy to be able to capture the bird on camera.

Some fabulous weather we are all having and in turn some lovely sunsets.

Inspired by this I had a go at Burnham Overy Mill. It made a pleasant change.

Trip to Islay.

Just back from a two week trip to Islay.

First time on this Island so a bit of an adventure. I always find it takes at least one week to get the lie of the land and get used to the wildlife subjects to be found within it. Usually on the Western Isles during May the weather has been just fine this was to be slightly different with a real mixed bag to contend with. Duly armed with all things needed to overcome such events I found this Island to be slightly hard work, the biggest bug bear being the strong winds. Having said that I am modestly pleased with some of the results that will follow in due course. So hope you like them.

Choughs seemed to be well in abundance and there antics were great to watch. Particularly their run ins with the local Rabbit population. Bit early for Corncrake although it is always said at this time of year the vegetation is still relatively low. On my travels heard only a total of four birds calling but did managed some brilliant views at Gruinart.
